Calendula oil has antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties which is useful in wound healing, soothing eczema and relieving diaper rash. A research done in 2012 shows that calendula showed diaper rash improvement after 6 hours and clearance in 3 days. It is also used as an antiseptic. It may be an alternative remedy to treat various skin conditions as well as improve the quality and appearance of the skin.
A study in 2012 found that calendula oil had SPF properties as a cream mixture. Calendula oil might accelerate wound healing. Another study in 2013 suggests that using calendula ointment along with standard care sped up episiotomy recovery time. Another one found that calendula extract may be useful in treating and preventing
acne vulgaris. Calendula oil’s wound-healing properties might make it a good choice in treating psoriasis. You can try applying calendula oil or balm on the affected area a few times each day.
Calendula is traditionally used for acne, eczema, abdominal cramps and as an anti-inflammatory agent. Its hydroalcoholic extract in rabbit jejunum showed spasmolytic and spasmogenic effects hence its use in abdominal cramps and constipation. Another study in mice showed its antitumor activity. Its extract showed anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects, as well. On topical use as cream or ointment, it is effective in reducing dermatitis, acne, inflammation, bleeding, soothing skin and radiation damage.
